HOME

We are HOME for good!!!
*I had a feeling*
Steve and I go to pick up all our stuff this weekend.
We also will be spending a lot of time removing any evidence that Kalea was there
ie. putty and paint for the windowsill she decided to chew
We will also be weeding and mowing.
Did I mention we're going sans children???!!!
This means Brynlee will probably be done with my boobs...
Dunno how to feel about that part.

Brightside: We get to go on a date and Eclipse just came out :D

The Post That Never Was...

I had grand plans for my Father's Day post this year, like really grand. Right as soon as we returned to Saskatoon after our fun-filled weekend home, I was going to post this beautiful pic of Steve and Kalea that I have been saving for said post. Then I was going to gush about the men in my life and how awesome and extra special each of them are...
Well funny thing about my plan, we still have not returned to Saskatoon?!?!?!
I know, what the what?! (thank you Liz Lemon & 30 Rock for drastically increasing my vocabulary of awesome phrases)
I will explain to the best of my ability.
Saskatoon has been fun for many reasons, mostly because we've had so much family time and a huge house and yard to enjoy. The downside has been the lack of actual selling of alarm systems, therefore we are not really making any money, we are just covering our usual expenses- barely and the company is paying rent in 'toon and at home.
Which means we are actually making less- and thank goodness I had the "inspiration" to swing the deal I did about paying rent at home or we wouldn't have had a home to come back to at this point. I honestly am so thankful I listened to my prompting instead of listening to everyone else who thought I was "taking advantage" of my bro-in-law. I think both of us are fairly good at separating the "work relationship" from the "family relationship", and I'm grateful that he was willing to bargain with me on that one. It has eased a lot of stress knowing that no matter what happens in Saskatoon, I still have my home.
Summer sales are unpredictable at best.
Steve isn't selling because it's not really his cup of tea to knock doors- apparently 2yrs was enough for him :P He wanted to do installs because that's where the guaranteed money is- as long as you're doing 1-2 a day all summer, you'll come out with a decent chunk of change at the end to feel comfortable. Sales in Saskatoon this summer have been less than stellar, so the day after we got to Calgary we found out that they were bringing all our sales guys to Calgary for 2wks... Which means we get to stay home for 2 wks!
Which means we packed enough clothes for our 3/4 day stay and are staying for 14??? Oh wait, scratch that they just added another week...
My hunch is that we're home for good, but who really knows?
We have also learned that our "sales team" is now basically 2 guys, one of whom would rather be in Calgary for the rest of the summer... SO all I'm really sure of is that we are home and loving it and so happy that Steve is busy with work and the girls and I are busy with our routine. Here are some of the highlites of being home:
  • No more 5:30 a.m. wake up calls!
  • Regular naps!
  • Less tv!
  • More walks/playdates!
  • Lake access down the street!
It is really really good to be home!
*Lack of pictures due to the fact that my camera charge cord is stuck in Saskatoon as are my most recent cute pix of kids and Steve*

This Kid

Is too much to handle most days.
Needs sunshine.
Loves outside.
Gives me a run for my money.
Makes life... interesting.
Tried to scratch my face off last night.
Still love her though.

Yesterday

Let's just say, if yesterday were a person, yesterday would be a cowboy that chewed me up and spit me out like a wad of old tobacco... Yes, it was just that great of a day!
Today was not nearly as ridiculous, and despite lack of sleep/naps went much better than I imagined. Here's hoping the sun comes back soon- like tomorrow morning, so cabin fever can go away and I can get Kalea worn out!

The Graduate

Michelle and her date, Tanner
This post is a "shout-out" to my younger sister, Michelle, who has recently achieved the monumental milestone of "high school graduation". This girl is a smartie pants, and far surpassed any of my marks, not to mention physical ability- although I was good at basketball. I vote her "Best All-Around Grad of 2010". She played field hockey, sang in choir and jazz choir, performed in some plays (she was recruited by a teacher when she filled in for a friend who wasn't able to read her lines that day in rehersal, so she stayed after school to do it for the girl even though she herself was not a theatre student?!), played percussion in the school band, etc... She may have played rugby one year, but I can't remember. Anyways, she's a pretty cool girl, and to top it all off, despite my complete jealousy over her killer-bod, she is mostly unaware of how gorgeous she is and is none too interested in any one particular boy.
It's safe to say we are POLAR OPPOSITES in that area :D Good times.
I'm sad I missed the graduation, but it's probably better that I wasn't there, from the sounds of things. Here is my dad's assessment of the actual ceremony which I find quite hilarious. To fully appreciate the part he wrote in bold, graduation caps were not issued because they were seen as a "risk", which I find hilarious since Centennial kids are pretty tame compared to most high schools, and my dad works in the business of insurance. Enjoy!

I couldn’t believe when the Principal said that there should not be any fist pumping or celebratory whoops, clapping, or cheers until the last name in each group was read… you gotta be kidding! I made it a point of defying this for any of the grads that I know. When he reiterated it in the middle somewhere, I literally laughed out loud. Everyone got braver as the ceremony went – cheered or howled for their loved one/friend getting their certificate – Stephen and I would say things like, ‘That is unacceptable behavior. Take that person out immediately and execute them!’ With German or Russian accents for emphasis… It was still so sedate and non-celebratory. It felt like how they’d do it in China or Russia under communist suppression. ‘It isn’t right to express your personal feelings outwardly. As a group, we may celebrate together but without too much emotion individually,’ I can hear Mao saying.

Q. How many graduates have had injury as a result of caps being tossed in the air during a ceremony?

A. My guess is maybe one every 5 years of cap tossing, and the injury was probably because they drunk or stoned before arriving for the ceremony; ie. they’re idiots. If they had an eye poked, it wouldn’t make them blind, just smart a bit.

Q. How many people attending the ceremony yesterday, walking in high heels or other dress shoes that they’re not used to, and on uneven surfaces, steep stairs, etc were injured? Consider that the audience are middle aged people with coats on, carrying cameras, are unfamiliar with the building; are not used to walking in dress shoes in a gymnasium with steep stairs and awkward surfaces and many raised/uneven seams; and some are senior citizens with even reduced capacities of vision, and even more difficulty traversing the hazards due to existing infirmities (like grandma)…..

A. My educated guess as a professional risk manager is – probably 10 to 20 people in the audience of 2000 incurred some injury during or before/after the ceremony.

Q. How many attendees at the ceremony were injured due to any other reason? Ie. Cheap plastic seats installed at Jack Simpson gymnasium? Or their own clumsiness?

A. 2 that I know of from just 2 rows of seating in our section; Stephen’s chair broke, ha ha….glad it wasn’t me. He wasn’t seriously injured (pride only)… and a lady in the row in front of us went to sit down and missed her seat completely, wiping herself out in a hilarious fashion (I suppressed any laughter. You would have exploded in an uncontrolled fit of laughter. I know you have no self-control.)

So, there you have it. My risk analysis concludes that in actual fact, the tossing of caps at a ceremony is less risky, both in frequency and severity, than other activities at the ceremony venue – like walking to/from the venue, or sitting minding one’s own business……

Sunshine-y Days

We had been enjoying the fabulous sunshine for the past few days- not so much today, but everyday can't be heaven right? We enjoyed the farmer's market yesterday, but will look forward to going on a Saturday when there are more vendors set up and a bigger crowd, not that we don't like being the only patrons :S LOL The park across the street from the market was awesome and Kalea found some friends to play with. I fell off this "modern carousel" contraption, that was so hard to hold on to, and Steve was spinning it so fast. No worries, I'm tough and I love the spongy playground stuff, so it was a fun fall- we laughed and so did all the other moms there- great to be known as "that weirdo mom"! With the nicer weather comes more opportunities to explore Saskatoon, we're hoping to get out to The Children's Festival next weekend- please send good weather vibes our way. I guess this is so far, the wettest summer in Saskatoon since who knows when- just our luck! Anyways, I am so excited to have so much space for the girls to play all summer long! We went out to Wal-Mart and got a sweet kiddie pool- will post pix as soon as it's nice enough to set it up again, hopefully tomorrow!

This pic is just to show the "scale" of the yard- see plenty o' room for playing!

Check out Brynlee's TWO front teeth! Crazy that my "baby" is growing up so fast :(
